PLYMOUTH, Ind. — The Highland Community College Men's Golf team capped off an impressive 2025 season with a gritty showing at the NJCAA Division II National Championship held at Swan Lake Resort, finishing 20th out of 22 teams in a field that featured 129 of the top junior college golfers from across the country.
In their second team appearance at the national tournament in three years, the Cougars battled through relentless rain and gusty winds during the opening two days of competition. Unfavorable weather conditions led to over eight hours of delays, testing the resilience and mental toughness of every team in attendance.
Despite the rocky start and delays, Highland saved its best for last, posting progressively stronger rounds of 328-318-326-309 over the four-day event. The final-round 309 marked the Cougars' lowest team score of the tournament and underscored their commitment to finishing strong.
"We got off to a tough start with the weather and some nerves, but I couldn't be prouder of how our guys battled all week," said Head Coach Javier Jazo. "They never quit. To come out and post our best round on the final day says a lot about the heart and determination of this group."
The trip to Swan Lake Resort – a picturesque venue that not only hosted the competition but also served as home base for players throughout the week – marked the sixth straight year a Cougar golfer has competed at the national tournament, a streak that speaks to the sustained excellence of the Highland program.
The 2025 season was filled with milestones for the Cougars. In addition to their national championship appearance, Highland captured two tournament titles and claimed the Arrowhead Conference Championship – the program's fifth conference title in school history. Five Cougars earned All-Conference honors, while three were named to the All-Region IV Team. The team also celebrated the graduation of two student-athletes who played key roles in this season's success.
"Nationals was a great way to finish what's been a tremendous year for our program," said Coach Jazo. "We've had team wins, individual honors, academic achievements, and now a national tournament experience that these guys will never forget. I'm extremely proud of how far we've come and what this group has accomplished."
