FREEPORT, Ill. — The collegiate golf season teed off at Park Hills Golf Course on August 22, as Highland Community College hosted the 52nd Annual Highland 36. The Highland 36 remains one of JUCO Golf's most unique traditions, serving as the first collegiate golf tournament of the year across all levels—NJCAA, NCAA, and NAIA.
Highland opened its fall campaign with a strong performance, finishing third out of 21 teams with a two-round team score of 594 (299-295). The Cougars showed both balance and depth in their lineup against a strong field that included Illinois Central College, the 2025 NJCAA Division II National Runner-Up.
Sophomore captain Luis Duffy led the way with rounds of 74-72 to finish fifth overall at 146. Freshman AJ Anderson was steady in his Cougar debut, shooting 74-74 for a sixth-place finish at 148, while classmate Jake Maloret climbed the board with a closing-round 73 to tie for seventh at 149. Freshman Brock Brown joined them in the top 10, placing 10th with 151. Francisco Roubineau rounded out the lineup with a 156 total.
"Our guys came out ready to compete and handled the pressure of being in the first collegiate event of the year," said Highland Head Coach Javier Jazo. "Putting four players in the top 10 and placing third in such a deep field is a great way to start the season."
The Cougars will look to carry momentum into their next event at Oakwood Country Club on August 25th for the Duane Chanay Invite.
