The Cougar softball team, who finished second in the Arrowhead Conference with a 14-6 record, had five student-athletes honored with 2022-2023 Arrowhead All-Conference Awards. Two student-athletes also recieved NJCAA Region IV All-Region Second Team Awards.
Jordin Dickey, Fr. infielder, and
Becca Schwartz, Fr. pitcher, both received NJCAA DII Region IV All-Region - Second Team recognition as well as Arrowhead Athletic All-Conference awards. Additionally,
Kayla Riemer, So. outfielder,
Brianna Stager, Fr. catcher, and
Neelah Vandeberg, Fr. designated player, were named Arrowhead Athletic All-Conference players.Â
Jordin Dickey lead the Cougars at the plate hitting .469 with 11 doubles, 7 triples, 5 homeruns, and 44 runs batted in during the 42 Region IV games that Highland played. While in Arrowhead Conference play, Dickey hit .500, had a slugging percentage of .853, and an on base percentage of .553. Overall she drove in 52 runs which ranks her 8th in the region.Â
Becca Schwartz ended the season with an 18-9 overall record and a 9-2 Arrowhead Conference record in the circle. Eighteen wins puts her tied for 3rd in the region for wins. In Arrowhead Conference play she ended with a 2.69 earned run average, tabbing 80 strikes outs in 69.1 innings pitched. Overall, Schwartz had 172 strikeouts which is the 3rd highest in the region. During conference play, she was also strong at the plate hitting .412 with 9 doubles, 3 triples, a homerun, and 21 runs batted in.Â
Kayla Riemer ends her Highland career with her first All-Conference Award. She was the nine hitter in the lineup and was able to turn the top of the lineup numerous times so that the Cougars could produce runs. Riemer hit .408 in conference with an on base percentage of .547. She is continuing her education and volleyball career at William Penn University.Â
Brianna Stager was the three hitter in the lineup and produced a majority of the Cougars runs. She hit .469 with 8 doubles, one homerun, and 25 runs batted in during conference matchups. Overall she drove in 53 of Highlands runs which ranks her 7th in region. Stager was a leader behind the plate and did not make a single error.Â
Neleeh Vandeberg played 1st base and was a designated hitter throughout the season. She hit .436 during Arrowhead play, with 7 doubles, 1 triple, and 16 runs batted in. Vandeberg had a slugging percentage of .600 and an on base percentage of .483.Â
The Cougars lead the Arrowhead Conference receiving 5 All-Conference recipients.Â
