Cougars Fire Program-Record 273 to Capture Oakton Owl 36 Invitational Championship

NORTHBROOK, Ill. — The Highland Community College men's golf team put together a record-setting performance Friday, firing a program-record 273 in the final round to run away with the Oakton Owl 36 Invitational Championship at Heritage Oaks Golf Club.

Highland opened the 36-hole event with a team score of 288 before catching fire in Round 2. The Cougars posted a 7-under-par 273, finishing the tournament at 561 (+1) and turning a tight competition into a commanding 12-stroke victory.

The 273 marks the lowest 18-hole team score in Highland men's golf program history.

Three Cougars broke 70 during the record-setting final round, led by Austin Dobbe, who carded a 4-under-par 66. AJ Anderson and Jonathan Huenink each added rounds of 68, giving Highland three under-par scores in the final round.

Dobbe led the Cougars individually, following an opening-round 73 with his 66 to finish at 139 (-1) and tied for third in the 85-player field.

Anderson continued his strong start to the season after earning medalist honors at the season-opening Highland 36. The sophomore posted rounds of 73 and 68 for a 141 (+1) total.

Freshman Griffin Blanch delivered two steady rounds, shooting 72-71—143 (+3), while Jake Maloret finished at 145 (+5) after rounds of 70 and 75. Huenink made one of Highland's biggest moves of the day, rebounding from an opening 77 with his 2-under 68 to also finish at 145 (+5).

Highland's depth was on display throughout the lineup. Jack Maharaj shot 72-74—146, Brock Brown finished at 72-75—147, and Kaden Brown rounded out the Cougar contingent with rounds of 75-74—149.

The championship is an early statement for a Highland program coming off back-to-back NJCAA National Tournament appearances. After tying for third in the weather-shortened Highland 36 to open the season, the Cougars responded in their second event with a championship and a new program scoring record.

The Cougars will face another major early-season test when they return to Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana, for the NJCAA National Preview on September 1-2. Swan Lake was also the site of the 2026 NJCAA Division II National Championship, where Highland finished 12th nationally last spring.
