The Highland Cougars Volleyball Team is set to return back to the court for the 2024 Fall season. Coming off of back-to-back Region 4 Tournament appearances, the Cougars have their aim set on returning to the tournament again this Fall season. The Cougars have a lengthy 35-match season ahead of them, with 8 home matches slated. This past April, the Cougars got extended competitive opportunities during the off-season with 6 total spring season matches. "I'm extremely excited with the roster and schedule we have assembled, as well as the off-season work that our ladies have put in," said Coach Heim, entering his 3rd year with the program.
The Cougars are entering the Fall season with a large incoming Freshman class of eight and will be returning all six members of its Sophomore class. There will also be several key areas on the court to replace, as both libero
Mary Zettle (2023 Arrowhead All-Conference & All-Region Teams) and setter
Maggie Drew (2023 Arrowhead All-Conference) have departed.
"We have some incredible athletes and leaders to replace this season but are in a great position to reload with both talent and leadership. Our Sophomore class has shown tremendous growth this past Spring and Summer, and our Freshmen are eager to make their presence known…it's an amazing combination", said Heim.
The Cougars begin their season with a free-to-the-public Blue vs Orange scrimmage on Friday, August 9th at 6:00PM at Larry F. Kahl Gymnasium at Highland. Their first official matches will be against Lake Land and Spoon River colleges at The Opening Weekend Tournament at the UW Health Sports Facility in Rockford on August 23rd.
