The Highland Cougars Men's Basketball team started off the season in an exciting fashion, winning against the Marshalltown Tigers by the score of 69-65.

The Highland Cougars led for about 35 minutes of the game, but could never extend the lead past 8 points, as the Marshalltown Tigers made some key 3's and got to the free throw line 21 times.

"I thought our guys played hard today, and tried to do the right thing. I give Marshalltown and Coach Ryan Flack a lot of credit,  they never stopped playing hard and kept coming at us. They have some really fast guards that can really attack you off the dribble, and a skilled and high motor big", said Head Coach Luke Norman

"There were times where I thought we could have extended the lead. We were up 8 at different times in the game, but didn't take advantage of getting stops and not scoring on the other end. Some were just missed layups, other times we turned the ball over and did not get a shot. Getting the 'W', is all that matters, no matter if it is pretty, ugly, or in between. Marshalltown is a good team.  We have a lot of things to work on, but I am really excited about what this group could be if we keep buying in and working hard. We just have to keep getting better ", said Head Coach Luke Norman.

Three Cougars scored in double digits, Demetrus Johnson II led the Cougars with 18 points. Ramean Hinton added a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Gonzalo Basterrechea chipped in 12 points.

The Cougars are back in action Tuesday, November 7 at 7:00pm against Clarke University JV in Freeport, IL.
