Gabriel, Hill, and Ramsey Earn Post Season Awards
Â
Stephan Gabriel,
Brandon Hill, and
Carlos Ramsey of the Highland Men's Basketball team have been selected for post season awards for their play during the 2021-2022 season.
Stephan Gabriel was awarded
1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All Region for his stellar play during the 2021-2022 season. Gabriel also has been
nominated to be an NJCAA D1 All American. Gabriel averaged 16 points per game, while grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists a game. He had a season high of 33 points against Harry S Truman, and recorded 5 double doubles this season. "I may be biased, but I believe Steph is one of the most talented and athletic players in all of JUCO basketball this year. He battled injuries and some sickness throughout the season which caused him to miss games, but when he was on the court, there aren't many guys I would take over him. I want to say thank you to Steph for trusting me to come play for Highland this season. Whichever D1 is lucky enough to sign him is getting a big-time player," Head coach
Luke Norman commented. Gabriel has completed his AA degree.
Brandon Hill was named
2nd team All Region for his play for the Cougars during the 2021-2022 season. Hill's play didn't always show up on the stat sheet, but was one of the best defenders in the region, where the player he defended shot 28% from the field. Brandon averaged 6.8 points per game, to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He led the Cougars with an impressive 3.7 assist to turnover ratio. Â Coach Norman says, "Brandon is one of the hardest working and respectful young man there is. His story is amazing. Last year he didn't play at a school. We saw him at an open gym and offered him. He comes to us and just works his butt off and earns 2
nd Team All Region. He was arguably the best perimeter defender in the country. Brandon just received an offer from a D2, after not having anywhere to play heading into this season." Brandon has graduated with a 4.0 GPA.
Carlos Ramsey was named
Arrowhead Conference MVP, and
1st Team All Region. Carlos led the Cougars in scoring netting 17 points per game. Not only could Carlos score, he did so efficiently. Ramsey shot 56% from the field, 42% from 3pt, and 80% from the free throw line. Coach Norman says, "Carlos has given this program everything he has since he transferred here from the University of North Dakota last year. He plays with his heart on his sleeve, and is the ultimate competitor. He has dealt with so much adversity, but always came in and worked hard and with a smile on his face. I appreciate Carlos trusting me and our program enough to come play at Highland. He has found joy in the game again, and has a bright future. He is actively being recruited by NCAA D1 Schools. There is no doubt he can go and contribute right away at the next level."Â Carlos will graduate this Spring.
