Devin Kastrup

Highland Community College is proud to name Devin Kastrup as the Cougars new Men’s Head Basketball Coach. Kastrup has an extensive background in coaching at the college level, bringing an experienced perspective to the Highland team. The appointment will be finalized upon approval by the full Board of Trustees.

Kastrup graduated from Western Colorado University with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and sports science with an emphasis in sport and fitness management. Following graduation, he played professional basketball for three seasons in Spain and China, where he was named Rookie of the Year before he got injured in 2017 and joined the coaching staff at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

“My family and I are thrilled to join the Highland community. The history, tradition, and strong community support make this a premier destination in junior college basketball,” Kastrup said. “Every step of my career has prepared me for this opportunity. At my previous stops, we built programs with a clear identity centered on toughness, discipline, and togetherness – and that standard will define us here as well.”

Since 2017, Kastrup has continued to coach and build his experience, beginning as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Western Colorado University, helping his alma mater more than double their wins from the previous year and earn more wins in a single season than the team had earned since 2012, bringing the Mountaineers to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Playoffs for the first time in five seasons.

From 2018-2021, Kastrup took over at Southwestern Community College in Iowa, tripling their number of wins in 2019-2020. The Spartans finished 24th nationally in free throw percentage, 20th nationally in field goal percentage defense, and third nationally in made three-point field goals.

For three seasons, from 2021-2024, Kastrup was the head coach at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas, where he helped the T-Birds earn an NJCAA Division I Basketball National Ranking for the first time since 2015.

Kastrup most recently served as assistant coach at Idaho State University.

Michael Broskowski, Director of Athletics and Physical Education says, “We are ecstatic to welcome Coach Kastrup as our new men’s head basketball coach at Highland and to lead our storied program into a new era. Coach Kastrup stood out early on in our process and brings extensive experience in rebuilding programs while also building strong community connections. Our goal is to return Highland basketball back to a top program in the Midwest. Coach Kastrup’s history paired with his energy and his strong ability to build relationships made him the perfect candidate to elevate the Cougars men’s basketball program to the next level.”

As Highland prepares for a new season in 2026, Kastrup shares his plan, saying, “We will recruit competitors, develop relentlessly, and build a team that plays with edge and purpose every night. Our goal is simple: compete at a championship level while representing Highland the right way on and off the court. I am grateful for this opportunity and ready to get to work. I’m also incredibly thankful for the unwavering support of my wife, Anna, and our daughter, Kayden. Go Cougars!”
