The Highland Cougars Men's Basketball Team got all it could handle on Tuesday night at Carl Sandburg College, but improve to 2-0 in Arrowhead Conference play after a 73-66 win.

The first half was back and forth, before the Cougars went on a 12-0 run to end the half, taking a 34-22 lead into halftime. "I thought we played great defensively in the 1st half, turning them over and only allowing 22 points. Our defense led to our offense", said Head Coach Luke Norman.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Chargers of Carl Sandburg stormed back, even taking the lead 61-60 late in the 2nd half. Markwan Adams hit a 3 for the Cougars to go up 63-61. That sparked a 13 to 5 run to end the game, and giving the Cougars a 73-66 win.

"The start of the 2nd half I thought we came out flat, and couldn't get any stops. Give some credit to Carl Sandburg, though, they made tough shot after tough shot. Once you give teams confidence, shots tend to start going in at a higher percentage. We take every teams best shot in conference, and I am proud of the way our guys reacted to their runs in the 2nd half. This is the first time all year I thought we held our composure and didn't allow their run to overwhelm us. They played a great 1-3-1 zone and 2-3 zone all game that made us play at their tempo. A conference road win is never easy, and we made enough plays and just found a way to win", said Head Coach Luke Norman

Tyler Johnson led the Cougars with 17 points, while Markwan Adams chipped in 12. 

The Cougars have a short turnaround, as they travel to Oglesby, IL to take on Illinois Valley, who is also 2-0 in conference. Tip off is at 7:30PM.
